Does Gen Z has more mental health problems than before?

The gen Z is an abbreviation for generation Z. The Generation includes the individuals born between 1995 and 2010. They are the ones who are going to have the most say in the world in a decade however their depression rates are increasing with each passing year.

DAK had declared with Children and Adolescents report from 2019, that the anxiety and depression were more common to see in Gen Z than the older generations.

27% of the children and adolescents in Germany suffers from psychological issues and have been treated medically at least once. The problems occurring the most seem to be depression and anxiety disorders. But what is the reason behind it?

Jona Stahmeyer stated that the times of Covid-19 pandemic and the following quarantine had caused the number of psychological cases to rise enormously. The pandemic has radically changed their educational and social experiences. It shifted learning online. Destabilized economies. The quarantine had limited the possible social interactions for the young people and prevented them from spending time with their peers as they much as they needed.

This increase did not only affect Germany. Across the world, rates of depression and anxiety rose by more than 25% in 2020, according to research published in the Lancet.

Despite the complaints a child would give when they would go to school, the institute provides a place for sociality along with discipline and learning. Social isolation by force at young age reflects itself as a form of anxiety. The world would be in its healing stage, had Putin did not attack the Ukraine. With the destabilisation of the newly renovating economy it is another pressure on the upcoming younger generation.
