Should abortion be legalized or banned?

With the overturn of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2022, abortion policies and reproductive rights are in the hands of each state. Half of the U.S. states are expected to ban abortion in the following weeks and months.

The population had split into two main sides when discussing the said subject: Pro-life and Pro-choice. The Pro- choice side defends that taking away the choice of abortion is a rob of women’s rights. Consisting mainly from liberals, they tend to bring up two other arguments. One is the “fetus” preventing a woman from becoming successful, and two is the pregnancies caused by sexual assault.

Pro-Life speakers bring up the Guttmacher Institute’s data against the argument, which states that the victims of sexual assault forms 0.5% of the abortion cases. They defend the right to live of the unborn babies and criticise the amount of immorality in the normalized act of “murder”. Kristan Hawkins, a Pro-Life speaker, argues against the saying of abortion preventing women’s success and says that it is in fact misogynistic to state that a woman would be in need of dismembering a human for her to achieve success.

Guttmacher Institute had announced that in 2020 930.000 babies were aborted. Since the ratio of abortion in 100 people reached over 20, Pro-Life movement gained more success and support from the population. 14 out of 50 states in the U.S. had already banned the abortion.
